Hotel
Prospect began as a logging
town with the first sawmill
operating in 1870. Since
1892, when the
Historic Prospect Hotel
first opened to guests,
summer visitors have come to
the Prospect area to enjoy
the scenery and natural
attractions. Visitors enjoy
participating in various
outdoor activities, from
photographing the
scenery to backpacking in
the wilderness of the Rogue
River National Forest.
Prospect remains an
unincorporated town and has
thrived as a popular
stopping point on the way to
Crater Lake since the early
1900's.
With a population of 530+,
Prospect boasts of its own
school district, library,
informal historical society,
and a number of
organizations.
Amidst breathtaking views,
green forests and
magnificent waterfalls,
Prospect and its surrounding
areas is a treasure of
beauty and recreational
opportunity to be discovered
in any season of the year.
Numerous state parks and
forest service campgrounds
are located in the area and
provide access to fishing,
boating, hiking and biking
opportunities. Enjoy old
logging roads that have been
converted to miles and miles
of off-highway vehicle
trails. A swimming hole
favored by locals, "The
Peninsula" has a small
waterfall and places to swim
and wade.
Sugar pines and other tall
evergreens form a canopy
above, while fragrant pine
cones litter the trails. In
spring, before deciduous
trees sprout their leaves,
the forest floor is a soft
carpet of green moss with
small orchids poking
through. Spring and fall
bring mushrooms that draw
hunters from afar. Autumn
offers a cascade of
brilliant colors and
huckleberries for those who
seek them out. Prospect is a
gateway to winter
recreational activities.
Miles of cross country ski
trails and 150 miles of
well-groomed snowmobile
trails take you to
unsurpassed winter vistas,
including Crater Lake. A
great sledding hill is
located nearby at
Union Creek Resort. Join
us for all-season fun!
