The
2008 Prospect Bluegrass Festival will be held on
July 11th, 12th and 13th.
The 13th
annual Festival, hosted by the
Prospect Lion’s Club, will be more
fun than ever with some of the best
bluegrass bands in Oregon, an
old-fashion barn dance and wonderful park’n lot pick’n. Festival
headliners include “True North” from
Salem, Oregon, “Green Mountain
Bluegrass Band” from Eugene,
“Siskiyou Summit” from the Rogue
Valley, “The Mighty Lonesomes” from
Ashland, Oregon and local favorites,
the “Goldman Family Band” from Eagle
Point, Oregon along with the “Rogue
Valley’s Old-Time Fiddlers” and
more. Also, returning to the
festival will be Leon Flick, the
entertaining and award-winning
Cowboy Poet with his humorous take
on life.
Plus, this year’s
festival will feature an
“Old-Fashion Barn Dance” on Saturday
night with well known caller Todd
Silverstein from Salem and the “Generic
String Band” from Ashland. The
family-oriented dance, held at the
Prospect Community Hall, will
feature squares, rounds, contra,
waltzes and kid’s dances. All ages
and abilities are welcome;
instruction will be given.
Other activities
at the festival will include a
“Bluegrass Band Scramble” on
Saturday morning, a “Gospel Open-Mic”
on Sunday morning, “Kid’s Jam” on
Sunday afternoon, craft booths by
regional artisans, a Lion’s Club
Pancake Breakfast on Sunday morning
and Barbecue Dinner on Saturday
evening plus lots “Park’n Lot Pick’n”
all weekend.
The festival will
begin on Friday, July 11th at 6p.m.
with the “Dale Albee Bonfire Jam”
and wiener-roast. Along with great
music, hot dogs and buns, the
festival’s Friday night activities
will be free to the public.
Prospect, Oregon
is located on Highway 62, 40 miles
northeast of Medford and just 35
minutes from Crater Lake National
Park.
