The 2008 Prospect Bluegrass Festival will be held on July 11th, 12th and 13th.

The 13th annual Festival, hosted by the Prospect Lion’s Club, will be more fun than ever with some of the best bluegrass bands in Oregon, an old-fashion barn dance and wonderful park’n lot pick’n. Festival headliners include “Green Mountain Bluegrass Band” from Eugene, “Siskiyou Summit” from the Rogue Valley, “The Mighty Lonesomes” from Ashland, Oregon and local favorites, the “Goldman Family Band” from Eagle Point, Oregon along with the “Rogue Valley’s Old-Time Fiddlers” and more. Also, returning to the festival will be Leon Flick, the entertaining and award-winning Cowboy Poet with his humorous take on life.

Plus, this year’s festival will feature an “Old-Fashion Barn Dance” on Saturday night with well known caller Todd Silverstein from Salem  and the “Generic String Band” from Ashland. The family-oriented dance, held at the Prospect Community Hall, will feature squares, rounds, contra, waltzes and kid’s dances. All ages and abilities are welcome; instruction will be given.

Other activities at the festival will include a “Bluegrass Band Scramble” on Saturday morning, a “Gospel Open-Mic” on Sunday morning, “Kid’s Jam” on Sunday afternoon, craft booths by regional artisans, a Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast on Sunday morning and Barbecue Dinner on Saturday evening plus lots “Park’n Lot Pick’n” all weekend.

The festival will begin on Friday, July 11th at 6p.m. with the “Dale Albee Bonfire Jam” and wiener-roast. Along with great music, hot dogs and buns, the festival’s Friday night activities will be free to the public.

Prospect, Oregon is located on Highway 62, 40 miles northeast of Medford and just 35 minutes from Crater Lake National Park.
